Style Presets

Style Presets are class-like, reusable treatments for one Luna block type. They keep repeated blocks synchronized while preserving a clear distinction between the non-deletable Default Theme baseline and deliberate local Style overrides.

Inspect the Text preset list

Open Site Design → Style Presets → Text and compare Default Theme with the named Text variants. Notice the management controls, but review where a preset is used before renaming, changing, or removing a custom variant.

Understand the three styling levels

Resolve shared styling from broadest baseline to narrowest exception.

Default Theme

Every block type has a typed Default Theme treatment. It cannot be deleted and supplies the site-wide baseline for existing and future blocks that remain default-managed. To edit it, open Site Design → Style Presets, choose a block type, and select Default Theme. For example, adding a corner radius to Default Theme for Image sets that shared baseline for default-managed Image blocks.

Create a preset

Style the block in its Style Panel, then choose Add Style Preset, enter a clear role-based name, and select Save. Luna assigns the new preset to that block and makes it available to other blocks of the same type.

Named preset

A named preset is a reusable variant for one block type, such as Primary CTA, Quiet Card, or Editorial Image. Assigning it to several blocks keeps supported parts, states, and breakpoints synchronized.

Local override

A value written in one block’s Style Panel takes priority for that block. Remove the local value to reveal the assigned preset again; do not copy the same override across many blocks.

Name presets for responsibility

Use durable role-based names, not a page name, campaign date, or literal color. A name such as Compact Metadata survives a palette change better than Blue Blog Labels.

Update safely

Before editing a shared preset, inventory representative instances on light and dark surfaces and at Desktop, Tablet, and Mobile. Check the block’s internal Style Areas as well as its outer frame, then review hover or active states when the type supports them.

To update a named preset, open Site Design → Style Presets, choose the block type and preset, edit it with the same Style controls used for Default Theme, then choose Save Presets. Review representative assigned blocks afterward.

Avoid preset sprawl

Create a new preset only when the treatment repeats and cannot belong in Default Theme. Merge nearly identical variants, keep local exceptions local, and never delete a named preset until affected blocks have a safe replacement.

Accessibility and responsive checks

Verify contrast, visible focus, readable type, safe padding, stable hover motion, and touch behavior wherever the preset is assigned. Add Tablet or Mobile values only for a real change in scale, spacing, or layout.

Preset checklist

Choose the block type. Start from Default Theme. Define one clear variant responsibility. Name it by role. Assign it to different real examples. Remove accidental local overrides. Test all supported parts, states, and breakpoints.

Next steps

Use The Style Panel to inspect how an assigned preset and local overrides resolve on a selected block. Then review representative pages in Responsive Design before updating a widely used preset.
