Create a New Site

Choose a starting point

Create a new site when the work needs its own pages, public address, settings, collaborators, and subscription. The first screen asks how the project should begin.

Start with Blank Canvas

1. From the Dashboard, choose New Site or the Create new site card.

2. Select Start with Blank Canvas when you want to build from the default blank starting structure.

3. Continue through the wizard and review every later detail before setup begins.

Enter the site details

1. Enter the required Site Title. Use a name that remains recognizable in site cards, settings, billing, and collaborator invitations.

2. Add an optional Site Description if it should become homepage metadata.

3. Enter the required Site ID (URL). The included address is shown as site-id.lunasites.io.

4. Wait for the availability check. Use a suggested alternative when the ID is already taken, then continue only when the wizard reports it as available.

Validation and uniqueness

A Site Title must contain 3–100 characters after trimming. A Site ID must contain 3–50 letters or numbers. Spaces are removed automatically, while punctuation and other characters are rejected. Availability is account-wide, so a valid format can still be unavailable.

Provisioning and the first editor visit

During setup, the wizard shows Setting up your website. The project can then move through pending or deploying states before it becomes active; an error state means setup did not complete and should be retried or reported with the chosen Site ID.

When the site is active, open it from the Dashboard. Review the homepage, global navigation and Footer, site identity, and responsive layout. Publishing is a separate decision; creation alone is not a substitute for a final desktop, tablet, and mobile review.

Responsive and accessible use

Starting choices display in one column on narrow screens and can expand into columns when space permits. Form controls remain full width, while the Site ID suffix stays adjacent to its input.

Use the visible labels instead of placeholder text as the source of meaning. Move through starting cards, fields, suggestions, and Continue controls with Tab; do not rely only on the green Available color—read the status text and any validation message.

Common mistakes checklist

• Do not treat Convert your site as the same workflow as Blank Canvas.

• Do not choose a Site ID before confirming spelling; it becomes the included public subdomain.

• Resolve availability and validation messages before continuing.

• Do not publish before replacing starter content and checking all breakpoints.
