Connect a domain from the selected site

Custom domains are site-scoped. The current Dashboard requires the site owner and a Pro plan to add, move, refresh, or remove them. Administrator collaborators can manage content but not this owner-only domain control.

Use Add Domain

1. Open the site’s Settings and find Custom Domains.

2. Choose Add Domain.

3. Select I already have a domain to connect a name registered with another provider, or Use an existing Luna domain to move one already connected to another site you own.

4. Enter the domain and follow the records displayed for that exact site.

Luna Sites does not currently sell or register domains. It provides DNS record instructions, not nameserver delegation, so the domain must remain manageable at its registrar or DNS provider.

Change DNS records carefully

Create the record types, host names, and target values Luna shows. Providers format root hosts differently, so follow the provider’s own notation while keeping the intended record and target unchanged.

Do not remove or replace MX, TXT, or other mail-related records merely to connect the website. Change an existing record only when it conflicts with a Luna instruction and you have confirmed that it is not serving email, verification, or another live service.

Read DNS and SSL states

The Domains table can show pending, verifying, verified, active, or error states. DNS records reports how many required records are configured. SSL displays the certificate state separately, so correct DNS can appear before HTTPS is ready.

Use Refresh DNS status after changing records. Propagation can take up to 48 hours according to the current Site Settings guidance; repeated refreshes do not make external DNS update faster.

Troubleshoot a pending domain

Confirm the exact host and value, remove accidental duplicate website records, and check that proxying or flattening at the DNS provider matches the instruction. If DNS is verified but SSL is still pending, allow certificate provisioning time before reporting a failure.

Keep the included lunasites.io address available while the custom domain is pending. Do not announce the new address until it resolves over HTTPS in a fresh browser session.

Move, disconnect, or change domains

Removing a connected domain releases it from the current site and can make it available for another Luna Sites account to add. Confirm ownership and the destination site before removing it.

When replacing a production domain, create redirects for any page paths that also change. Domain-level traffic planning and path redirects are separate tasks.

Responsive and accessible use

The account-wide Domains table keeps a minimum desktop width and becomes horizontally scrollable on smaller screens. Scroll within the table to reach Status, DNS records, and SSL rather than zooming the page out.

Refresh and Remove controls have accessible names that include the domain. Keep focus visible, read the text status badges, and do not rely only on amber, green, or red styling.

Common mistakes checklist

• Confirm the site owner and plan before beginning.

• Do not edit nameservers when Luna supplied ordinary DNS records.

• Protect existing mail and verification records.

• Wait for both DNS and SSL before launch.
